Emily Receives Her Hebrew Name Emily Faith received her Hebrew name this weekend of July 11th, 2003 in two ceremonies, one at Temple Rodef Shalom, and one at her home in McLean, Virginia. At Friday night services at Rodef, Emily, Marcus and Rachel were called to the pulpit for a special prayer as Cantor Michael Shochet blessed Emily and gave her the Hebrew name Emunah, which means faith in Hebrew. On Sunday, Rabbi Amy Schwartzman, presided at a brief Brit Bat service at the home of Emily, Marcus and Rachel. The Simon's were surrounded by close friends and family, as they welcomed Emily into the covenant of the Jewish people. You can view the service as an html document by clicking here. You can see a slide show with all the pictures from the weekend by clicking here.
First Fourth of July
Emily Goes to New Jersey Emily joined Mom & Dad on a car trip to Flemington New Jersey, hometown of her mother and current residence of her Nana & Poppi. She slept during most of the Saturday morning trip, except for a very upsetting 30 minute stretch in Philadelphia stuck in a two mile construction traffic tie up. She behaved well over the weekend, adapting easily to her new surroundings. She spent lots of time in the loving arms of Aunt Stephanie, Nana and Poppi, who were all so glad to see her they were beside themselves. Pictures from the weekend sojourn are only a click away! Nine Pounds Three Ounces & Growing Emily was recently at the Pediatrician for her two month check-up, and everything looked great! She weighed it in at a slender 9 pounds 3 ounces, putting her in the 25th percentile for babies her age. She was also just over 22 inches long (50th percentile) with a perfectly average size head (again in the 50th percentile). Emily is a much happier baby since mom & dad read Secrets of the Baby Whisperer and put Emily on the E.A.S.Y. system. She now Eats, has some Activity time before she goes to Sleep, giving mom and dad some much appreciated You time. Rachel and Marcus commend the book to all our expecting friends and acquaintances. It's been our best purchase since we got TiVo. --------- It's A Girl: Emily Faith Simon Born 8:37a.m. - 6 pounds 3 ounces / 19 1/2 inches long The Simon Family added its newest member at 8:37 am on April 8th, 2003 when Rachel Anne gave birth to Emily Faith in an emergency C-section at Arlington's Virginia Hospital Center. The picture below was snapped by proud dad Marcus about 45 minutes after Emily was born - during her hearing screen. Emily Faith and mother Rachel returned
to their McLean home Saturday, April 12, 2003 after a 5
day stay in the hospital gaining weight and recovering
from a C- section. Upon their arrival they were greeted by a six-foot-tall stork, dressed in pink announcing
Emily's birth and holding a bundle in it's beak
reflecting her vital statistics. No, it wasn't proud papa
Marcus in a bird suit. The wooden stork was generously
provided by Emily's Grandparents, Sam & Susan, who
got it at storkladies.com. There are several photo slide shows hosted locally: Or visit Sony's Imagestation album for an Album of much larger Hi Resolution versions of the same pictures. They make great wall paper for Windows ;-) Video Clips Clip 1of Emily's First Cry Just as She is Born. Beware, she's a little messy looking . . . The AVI file is enormous, but very high quality. Only worth downloading if you have a T-1 connection at work. For anything else, try the streaming clip. The quality isn't as high, but you will get the idea.
First 20 Seconds of Emily's life
Clip 2 of the next minute and 35 seconds of Emily's life.. Better images - not as messy, but still not suitable for everyone. The AVI is much too large to post . . . working on a compromise, better quality than the streaming video, but not as big a file . . . Emily first moments of life |
